I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia, and earned my Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from George Mason University. I began CrossFit in 2014 after being introduced to it by a colleague and have been hooked ever since. I train regularly and compete in small local CrossFit competitions. Outside of the gym I love spending time with family and friends, as well as my dog Dexter.

Why does Mel do CrossFit?

I do CrossFit because I love the atmosphere it provides. I'm always striving to push myself and become the best version of myself and that competitive but family orientated atmosphere creates motivation and support through my workouts.

Advice to Athletes:

Don't compare yourself to others. Don't get caught up in the "I can't" or get yourself down because someone learned double under in 1 week and you've been practicing for months. Everyone will have strength, as well as weakness, so make it your job to overcome those obstacles. Continue to practice and push yourself and one day those weaknesses will become your strengths.
